Mauveine by Vitor Regis

In 1856, an eighteen-year-old chemist named William Henry Perkin was trying to synthesise quinine when he found, at

the bottom of a failed experiment, a brilliant purple residue. He called it mauveine — the first synthetic dye in history,

and the colour that made violet, once reserved for emperors, available to everyone.

The V. Regis Mauveine wears that colour on a sunray dial that moves from orchid to deep mauve as it catches the

light. Applied, luminous-filled 3, 6 and 9 numerals, baton indices and a triangle at 12 give it the clean legibility of an

explorer's watch, framed by a smooth polished bezel on a 39 mm 316 stainless steel case. A three-link bracelet and

the NH35A automatic calibre complete a watch for every day — no battery, powered by the motion of the wrist.
